About Us
Our farm, an original Ontario Homestead was first established in the early 1800's by an United Empire Loyalist known as Solomon Washburn. Early settlers like Solomon found that tracts of land in southern Ontario abundant with black walnut trees proved to be fertile soil - and his parcel of land was no exception. Over the years, different owners have enjoyed this property but the Smith family, for several generations have been the longest deed holders. In the 1980's, the present owners, Ron & Adele Service acquired the property and over the years have redefined its composition and purpose. In 1999 Black Walnut Lane was established with the aim to return the land to an agricultural going concern, and sheep were a good choice for the size and location of the farm. A lane was constructed between Black Walnut trees that lead to where all the excitement is taking place. Located in the village of Millgrove, visitors from far and wide are always welcome and school and organization tours are available.
